This month’s newsletter features the Fall 2021 Sweep the Creek event which is happening this weekend!
Come on out Sat the 25th or Sun the 26th to collect litter from the creek and park. Details on the locations and times for picking up supplies – large trash bags and gloves – are on the Sweep the Creek webpage. Other related activities appear in the Sept Newsletter as well.
Last Spring, over 400 people rid the creek of plastic bottles and bags, metal scraps, furniture and a shopping cart, styrofoam containers and cups from take-out meals, straws, etc. Removing these items helps stop microplastic and other pollution in Sligo Creek and the Anacostia River and helps protect wildlife from eating or getting tangled up in trash.
Many hands make a big difference to the health of the wildlife and us humans too!
