Thanks to the 300+ neighbors who came out for the Fall 2021 Sweep the Creek last weekend, Sligo Creek is looking great!

It’s cleaner, 270 big bags of trash cleaner, to be precise. And the 30 bags of invasive plants that volunteer weed warriors removed will give more space and light to the native plants struggling to compete with the invasives. FOSC Stewards and other volunteers staffed 15 tables throughout Sligo and Long Branch with trash bags, gloves and other supplies for the Sweep participants. Thank you, everyone – y muchas gracias a todos.

Special finds by sweepers: 2 (lead?) pipes, a grocery cart, 2 rolls of metal fencing, a construction barrel, vinyl, a tire, a car stereo, and many unidentified objects, none of which belong in the creek.

A huge shout out to Ed Murtagh for organizing the Sweep. Great job, Ed!
