Bacteria Monitoring

Discussed the latest WSSC proposals about their bacteria monitoring program. When they begin monitoring we’ll see if we can track their data on the Friends of Sligo Creek web page.

Anacostia Watershed Region Citizen’s Monitoring

Citizens frequently express interest in monitoring. For example, the Beaverdam Creek Watershed Watch Group held a water quality monitoring forum on September 30th to try to decide what sort of monitoring they should start. The Neighbors of Northwest Branch also have tried to resolve this issue. This topic is scheduled to be discussed at the next Anacostia Watershed Citizen’s Advisory Committee meeting on November 14th. Therefore possible regional monitoring projects were discussed. Monitoring of turbidity, discharge, stormwater outfalls, conductivity, and pH were mentioned as possible parameters that could form the foundation of a Anacostia watershed regional water quality monitoring system.

Report to the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection

The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection recently requested citizen’s groups known to have monitored the water quality of County streams between 2001 and 2005 to prepare a report on their findings. The request specifically was for macroinvertebrate data gathered in March and April of those years. Therefore a report was prepared in response to this request and is available online. It contains macroinvertebrate data as well as other water quality data about Sligo Creek between 2001 and 2005.
