The FOSC Water Quality team would like to extend our thanks and great appreciation to Dan McCann, Environmental Health Specialist at the County’s Department of Environmental Protection, for his hard work protecting Sligo Creek and Montgomery County’s other waterways. Dan is moving on to other opportunities beyond Montgomery County.

Dan was a part of Steve Martin’s superb DEP team that partners with FOSC as part of the Water WatchDog program. He worked closely with Water WatchDogs for many years. He was always thoughtful, careful, and tireless in getting to the root cause of Sligo pollution. Not only did Dan investigate many of our pollution mysteries, he educated us about what he found and how to apply the findings to future pollution problems.

Dan’s commitment to clean water continued off the job. A few years ago, he rode in FOSC’s Bike Ride for Clean Water: From Sligo Creek’s Headwaters to the Anacostia, offering environmental commentary on clean water issues to cyclists enroute.

We will miss Dan and his guidance, and wish him well in his new endeavors. Thank you, Dan!
