Litter Committee Minutes
July 25, 2007

1. Sweep the Creek: We need to stake the banners better; section leaders need to scout litter better and get their own tablers; Wendi needs to advertise for volunteers to bring waders. We discussed counting bottles/cans in pilot sections to make a point about the number of disposables for bottle bill data but decided it was too much work for such an obvious problem.
2. Sweep Celebration: We discussed Litter Committee participation. Jane is to check into trash can painting. Wendi is to work on a bottle bill table idea and pursue the idea of having the dvd on the trash vortex playing. We agreed to ask Marty about doing another t-shirt with the “What doesn’t belong here? theme,” as a fundraiser.
3. Initiative to get more trash cans and recycling bins in park: Wendi updated Ed and Jane on progress.
4. Wendi discussed the failure of the county in educating residents about recycling program–so few neighbors get what can and cannot be recycled plus recycling workers litter. Ed is to talk to the education contact at Shady Grove.
5. Trash trap: AWS would like FOSC to pilot a trash trap, but it seems like it is better for a river or harbor.
6. Ed suggested we think of proposals to ask the board for funding for, such as a car magnet with an anti-litter message.
