Litter Committee Minutes
June 15, 2006

Brent Bolin and Alison Gillespie came to get us started on Sweep the Creek preparations.
We discussed how it will be on National Public Lands Day (September 30th), rain or shine, with celebration to follow the next Sunday (tentatively) at place and time to be decided.

Lots of ideas were thrown around for the celebration. Perhaps tickets would be given out to Sweep participants, but all would be welcome. Suggestions:

  • door prizes
  • crafts, such as bird feeders made from soda bottles
  • animals
  • litter game relay
  • face painting
  • donated food
  • celebrity speaker
  • information booths and displays

Literature: handbills only or postcards too?

5K run/walk with celebration afterward also discussed, as way to reach people who use the park but have yet to engage in FOSC events. Sponsors? Food?

Signage: We are preliminarily discussing purchasing a few banners to help get more exposure for events in low-turnout sections. Another option is going with the Burma Shave-type signs, etc.

The final few words from the litter committee were about their follow-up on issues by email and the next meeting in August and the continued need for a focus on broad prevention strategies.
