Montgomery County faces a momentous decision about trash management: Should we ship our trash to a landfill outside the County or keep the County’s incinerator operating?
On October 30, FOSC President Elaine Lamirande conveyed to County Council members and County Executive Elrich a report presented to the FOSC Board by two Advocacy Committee members regarding the Montgomery County plan to close the Dickerson Resource Recovery Facility (aka incinerator). The report doesn’t recommend one solution over another—it raises a number of areas where additional data is needed for the County to make an informed decision. It aims to help officials and the public about the financial, environmental, health, and equity impacts of sending trash to a landfill versus continuing to operate the incinerator. The report can be read or downloaded here.
