On Wednesday, June 1, 4:04 PM, Doug Taphouse of the Seven Oaks-Evanswood neighborhood (SOECA) reported to the water detectives at the County’s Department of Environmental Potection (DEP) via the Water WatchDog email [email protected]:
“Something very slippery was spilled on Pershing Drive at the intersection of Mayfair Place. It doesn’t smell like fuel oil or gasoline, but I’m concerned it might be hazardous. It’s bound to end up in Sligo Creek at some point. From what I can tell, it looks like several gallons of the substance were spilled.”
Gretchen Ekstrom of DEP responded: “The substance appears to be brake fluid. I spread absorbent this morning and will return tonight to remove it.”
Thanks to Doug for reporting the pollution and to Gretchen for identifying and cleaning it up before it became more of a community hazard and then washed down into the Creek.
