The Bennington Tributary was polluted with chalky, grayish water just before 5pm. The flow of one of the outfalls was particularly strong. (The outfalls drain downtown Silver Spring as part of the 115 acre Bennington drainage area. The County’s Department of Environmental Protection has mapped the drainage area, which is posted in our website maps section.) Bubbles, maybe suds were evident. I sent a photo and brief report to DEP via the Water WatchDog email. I have also sent out an email to our neighborhood listserv (SOECA) asking if anyone saw any polluting activity entering a storm drain in dowwtown Silver Spring or our residential neighborhoods around the same time.
